Roman's is one of Baton Rouge's oldest Greek and Lebanese restaurants (with the original location located on Government Street). It is also my favorite Greek and Lebanese restaurant in the city. The Perkins location is very nice- much more updated and "up-scale" than the Government Street location (although you can totally get away with casual dress). The service has always been stellar. The menu offers an assortment of Greek & Lebanese fare, as well as other options (pasta, sandwiches, etc.) that are not necessarily Greek or Lebanese. I encourage you to try the Lebanese Tea (a Baton Rouge invention- so not authentic- but scrumpcious nonetheless). I also enjoy their pita, which tastes homemade.

Decent but not the best I've had in Baton Rouge. They have specials not on the menu. Sometimes you can ask for a chicken soup which is cream based and is quite delicious. Atmosphere is nice and the service is quick.

Really good Kibbeh...reminded me of family dinners growing up Lebanese. Doesn't look like much from the outside, menu at least for lunch is limited. But no complaints.

In a town where it's easy to find good greek/lebanese food, Romans is a shining star. Their pita, salad, hummus, chicken, gyros, and meat mousaka are better than any of the other greek/lebanese places in town. Their pita is fresh baked and delicious unlike every other place I've encountered in Baton Rouge that serves warm pita bread from a package. Their house salad that comes with most plates uses an olive oil base and is rich with garlic and feta cheese. The hummus seems to achieve the perfect level of thickness and has great texture. Their chicken, which maintains the perfect outer crisp while still being juicy, has some nice spices added to it that put it on another level compared to other places in BR. I eat here a few times a week and is one of my defaults when deciding to eat out. Every time I eat at the BR favorite Albasha, I wish I was eating at Romans instead. I've never had faulty service here like the previous review mentioned. The one thing I fault them for is that the lebanese tea is too sweet, and I wish they'd put pine nuts in it like others do.

I hate to give this establishment 2 stars because I think they might actually be better. My review is based on one take-out (for two) and a sit down dinner right after Hurricane Isaac. The take-out meals, both shwarma and gyro based, were quite good and got me through the hurricane while I was cooped up in a hotel. The pita bread was excellent as I could tell that it was freshly baked on the premises. It had a slight sour-doughy taste to it which I actually really enjoyed especially because I had not expected such flavor in a pita bread. Based on the above experience I went back with a colleague the day after the hurricane to have a proper sit down meal. We ordered the fried halloumi cheese to share. I ordered the shwarma sampler which had chicken shwarma, beef shwarma and gyro. The fried cheese tasted deep fried in not so fresh oil and came with a sauce that was interesting but not necessary. The chicken shwarma was fine, the gyro was OK and the beef shwarma (which could be excellent if done right) was not so good. My colleague had the falafel sandwich and was not terribly impressed. The bread and service was very good however. So, perhaps it was the hurricane. Next time I am in town, I will try again because I feel they were just not at the top of their game after the hurricane.

Best Greek in BTR. Serops, Albasha and Arzi's are all good. Roman's is the best. Amazing flavors and freshness. Chicken Shwarma, Chicken shish kebob, falafel, hummus, veggie moussaka, even the rice pilaf (!)... All excellent. New fav.

Fresh pita bread when you sit down. Large portions and low prices. $10 got me a gyro, fries, and a greek side salad. Service was quick and friendly.

Food is excellent - however wouldn't honor an LSU Tiger Bucks coupon. Coupon was not expired and valid but waiter said owner had a dispute with the magazine and would not honor it. Their disagreement with Tiger Bucks isn't the customer's fault. Very poor customer service...

This place has pretty good food, although the service is not always top notch. But hey, for an $8 lunch special, who cares? I usually get the veggie plate, which gives a choice of 5 dishes out of a list of about 9. Not bad! The houmus is really good and authentic, and the felafel and spinach pie are good, too. I highly recommend the sauteed spinach. I have NEVER had spinach that tasted this good. I don't know what they do to it, but I think they sautee it with some onions and lemon juice, and it's fantastic! Seriously, try it! I think they also give you a choice of white or wheat pita bread, so that's cool if you're going to pretend you're eating healthy. Whatever gets you through the day. The baklava was a bit too rich and gooey for my taste, so I'd skip that. Overall, definitely worth a try.

I should start off by saying that I really liked this place. I would have given 4 stars, but there was one thing I didn't like about my meal. If I would have ordered a different side I would probably be raving about this place. First of all, I loved the lunch atmosphere. The crowd was mainly business professionals, but I went in work out clothes, and fit right in. The staff was very attentive. There was the feeling of a calm hustle in the air as the place was busy, but no one seemed rushed. It was a nice flow. Now to the food. The Lebanese tea was perfect. There was just enough sugar to make me happy. I ordered the combo schwarma plate which is a whole lotta food. I enjoyed both the chicken and gyros. The sides I chose were the hummus and cauliflower. The hummus was fine, but the cauliflower was very bad IMO. It was very oily/greasy, so much so, that the grease got into the hummus and the meats. Since I didn't like the taste of the cauliflower, it could have ruined the other parts of my meal. Luckily, I have a husband that came to my rescue. For some reason he was "really surprised i didn't like the Cauliflower" because he "really liked it." So he ate the parts of my dish that were covered in the grease. My husband ordered the gyros pizza and enjoyed it. The pizza is also a generous portion. He only finished half of it. As for the pita, it is as fresh and delicious as everyone says it is.

A visit to Roman's Cafe will bring you interesting decor, decent food, and cordial staff. I walked in on a Wednesday night after asking a person on their way out of the restaurant what type of food was served at Roman's Cafe. From the outside, it is easy to know the name of the restaurant, but it is difficult to tell what they actually serve. Rome, Italy or Romans are not represented here. The website suggests "The best Greek restaurant in Baton Rouge," and the menu describes the cuisine as Greek and Lebanese. Upon entering the establishment, I was pleasantly surprised. Their decor was certainly representative of the the type of food they serve. I did not find any of the decorations on the wall statues to be gaudy, but served to set the mood. The mood is further set with some colorful accent lighting throughout and some white table "covers". The place was clean and cozy enough for a fairly intimate dinner (if that is your thing). They did have a flat screen TV, but it was no turned on. I ordered the spinach pie (spanakopita) and a large greek with feta salad. I was just finished with a workout, so I just ordered water. Before the meal, you are presented with some freshly made pita bread. It was quite toasty and good. On the table you can prepare your own olive oil dip with the nondescript Lebanese spice mix and a healthy serving of olive oil that you will find on the table (dash of salt, sprinkle of pepper). The restaurant has about 25 tables, and would call it a normal load for a weeknight. Nonetheless, I was not kept waiting long for my food to arrive both at the same time (my girlfriend ordered a chicken wrap, which arrived at nearly the same time, but a bit of forgetfulness caused her salad to come after the meal). The spinach pie was OK. There was only crust on the top and the filling was pretty sour. Not unbearable, but I have certainly had a better example of Spanakopita (a good fried of mine is Greek, and I spent about a week in Greece a few years ago). It was served with a side of yogurt sauce (Tzatziki). Why, not sure... perhaps to add some more salt to the appetizer. The Greek salad was satisfying. It had the right flavors with the dressing, crisp lettuce, onions, and cracked pepper spread liberally. However, this is the first Greek salad I have ever had that came sans-olives. There were some sliced sun-dried tomatoes and a sliver of artichoke heart. It also seemed that the lettuce used may have been fairly wet, evidenced by some quite bland bites and the small puddle of water left after I was done. Also, don't expect much more than some bits of crumbled feta. The largest pieces are about the size of a kernel of corn. Service was prompt and cordial. Not much to be said there. Prices were reasonable. All in all, I don't think I would suggest to go there, but I wouldn't hate it to go back.

Overpriced and poor customer service. Attempted to order open faced normal gyro and was told needs to be a wrap bc can't use two boxes. That should tell you a little, the price is $11 and $275 for a drink. They give you little meat and no fries. Now I grew up on gyro from Chicago, currently a giant gyro is $575, $179 for fries, 129 for drink. So why in Baton Rouge a small city, Chicago much more expensive would you charge so much money and give little meat and fries? I am confused, avoid this place I am betting they will be out of business soon if people understand how overpriced they are.

As I write this, I am resisting the siren song of a food coma. After looking over my original review, I realized that even the kind words I used do not do this establishment justice. So, I loaded the roommate into my truck and we went to gather the data for me to be able to tell the Truth about this amazing place. The service is always top-notch; I have literally never had a bad experience with Roman's, and I am pretty sure I have had every waiter in the place. They are always super friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. When I go, I typically drink water, because I am just that kind of guy, but I was feeling a little adventurous and wanted to try something new, so I ordered the Lebanese tea. I have had other Lebanese teas before, but I was never really a big fan before tonight. This tea blew all the others away. It was sweet, but not overpoweringly so. It had a hint of tart from some lemon, and just the right amount of rose water. Honestly, I think the worst thing I can say for the entire experience was that the salad was nothing special. There was nothing wrong with it, but it wasn't particularly great. I did, however, like how the feta was just a little tangy. However, if your biggest complaint is that the salad is not spectacular, the restaurant is doing pretty well. After I was done with my salad, the food arrived with a fresh basket of pita. If you have never had pita that did not come out of a bag; stop reading my review, go to Roman's, try the pita and then come back.....Now that we all have had real pita, we know what it should actually look like when you go to a Greek or Lebanese restaurant. Roman's pita is so fresh that you have to wait for it to finish baking before your basket can be replenished. Now, I will rarely take the time to comment on the presentation at a restaurant, because I usually focus on whether I am satisfied by the taste and quantity. However, I would say that this meal warrants a discussion of the aesthetic appeal. My meal came to me on a big, square plate, and every food had its place. It looked as if the chef knew I was there to write a review and personally wanted me to have the finest meal he could prepare. I ordered the combination shawarma plate (the chicken and the gyro) with a side of the squash casserole and the hummus. Now, I didn't discover hummus until I was in college, and I didn't discover good hummus until grad school, but I didn't discover great hummus until I stumbled onto Roman's a few months ago. Before I go any further, I should just note that every dish they prepare seems to seasoned only enough to enhance the flavors of the foundations of the meal. Nothing is over spiced, and you can taste the quality of the ingredients. The hummus was smooth and creamy, with just a hint of tart from some lemon. It was garnished with paprika and parsley, and made a truly beautiful addition to the plate. When I think of Lebanese food, I don't really think of squash, but this squash casserole reminds me of a dish my mother used to make, so it even gets bonus points for nostalgia. It is seasoned just right. The pepper is present, but only enough to pique the interest of your taste buds. I am incredibly picky when it comes to the textures of the food that I eat, but this casserole got it just right. The squash was soft and tender, but it was not squishy. I guess the casserole did not make a visually appealing addition to the meal, but it was so delicious that I will give it a pass for looking like squash casserole. Now we get to the meat of the meal, figuratively and literally. The chicken shawarma was outstanding. There were the crispy bits mixed in with the tender parts. The flavors were subtle, yet noticeable. Just a hint of piquant seasoning to arouse the senses. The gyro can be described in much the same way; it was tender and juicy. While the chicken was good, it was in the gyro that the mastery of the spices was most apparent. The gyro added a fine melody to the already complex and pleasing symphony of flavors. The spices accompanied the blend of lamb and beef, but still let the meats present their own flavors. At this point in the meal, I was starting to get a bit full, but, still feeling adventurous, I ordered a helping of the baklava. Now, puff pastry and I have an odd relationship: I hate it, but it always comes filled something that I love. So, when my dessert made its appearance, I was stunned--it was just beautiful to behold. The rather generous serving was situated in the middle of the plate with its honey sauce and dusting of cinnamon. The thing I noticed with my first bite was that it was still warm. The puff pastry and I fought, but I didn't care, so long as I won. It was sweet and warm and was the perfect ending to this culinary adventure. I usually end my reviews with an "overall", but I am going to skip it this time just to say: please do us all a favor and go visit Roman's Cafe. They are too delicious not to be packed all the time!

Authentic Greek food! Easy to miss this location on Perkins Rd. I had their beef souvlaki sandwich with hummus and feta salad. The salad was amazing. Pita bread is complimentary! I also tried the French fries which were delightful to my surprise. This is a full service restaurant. The waiter was very attentive. ...and fast service!

Everything is great about this place: VERY fast service, delicious warm pita, and reasonable prices. I always get the combo plate with chicken shwarma and gyros. It's on-par with my other favorite Greek and Lebanese restaurant, Albasha's. The greek potatoes and hummus are my favorite sides. Portions are definitely big enough to share. I don't know why but this place is never busy. This means you get seated right away and the food arrives in under 10 minutes!
